It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our extraordinary husband, father, grandfather and friend, George Baillieul at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on April 2, 2011.
George was the son of the late Charles Wesley Baillieul, Melville and Annie Christina Morrison, Point Tupper.
George will be remembered for his dedication and devotion to his family, his positive attitude, his sense of humour, and his ability to fix almost anything. As an industrial arts teacher, he was the original ‘Mr. Fix-It’, with a weekly CBC-Sydney television show in the 1960s called “On the Level”. George was principal of the Ashby Industrial Arts Home Economics Complex from 1969-88 when he retired. He was a past-president of the Nova Scotia Industrial Arts Association, and a proud member of the Retired Teachers bowling team.
George was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen (Dickie), his daughter, Marilyn Baillieul and his brothers, John and Roy.
He will be forever missed and cherished by his wife, Sarah ‘Bunnie’ (MacPherson) and his children, Nan Millette (Philippe), London, Eng., and Doha, Qatar, David Baillieul (Freda), Halifax, Wendie Baillieul Smith (Maitland), Abbotsford; and John Baillieul, Sydney. He will always be loved by his grandchildren, Benjamin, Justin and Vincent Millette, England; Robert and Kristine Baillieul, Toronto and St. John’s; and Ceilidh and Mac Smith, Abbotsford. His grandchildren will fondly remember Grandpa Georgie’s unique way of thinking to solve any problem, and his love of music, campfires and pillow fights.
He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Margaret Farran, Toronto, and Dorothy (Don) McIntosh, Bridgetown; his cousin, Rhoda (Baillieul) Dickson, Catalone as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nurses who cared for George over the past few months. Special thanks to Dr. Shehzad, Dr. Wong, Dr. Gowan, the staff of 4B, and the staff of An Cala. The family is very grateful to Rev. Wade Reppert, and the many relatives, neighbours and friends who called and visited from home and away during his illness.
There will be no visitation upon request. A celebration of his life will be held at First United Church, Whitney Avenue on Wednesday, April 6 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the An Cala unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, First United Church, Sydney or a charity of your choice.
