It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that, we the family, announce the passing of Capt. Joseph Richard Pitcher (91) on May 26, 2017, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Born in Burin, Nfld, January 9, 1926, he was the youngest son of the late Matthew and Winnifred (Paul) Pitcher. He was a passionate and loving man whose family meant everything to him. He moved to Louisbourg in 1963 and was a sea captain on the trawlers for National Sea Products until his retirement.
Joseph is survived by seven children, Harry (Donna), Halifax, Wayne (Nora), Louisbourg, Joey (Ann) Bateston, Calvin (Caroline), Louisbourg, Yvonne (Harry) Sydney, Bonnie Whynott (Stewart) and Peggy Mahon (Bernard), both of Louisbourg. He is also survived by his sister, Winnie (Hartlin) Dartmouth and Grace Bugden (NFLD).
Joseph is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Trevor, Jody, Matthew, Michelle, Melanie, Amy, Daniel, Adam, David, Justin, Kevin, Jennifer and Joseph, and also 17 great grandchildren, Alex, Chloe, Aiden, Stephen, Nora, Liam, Kinnon, Owen, Ben, Chase, Tanner, Jaxon, Jack, Beau, Jude, Danny and Teagan.
Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Janet. He was also predeceased by a son in infancy; his brother, Dan; and sisters, Edna and Ruth.
He was an avid hockey fan and the Toronto Maple Leafs was his favorite team.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation for the late Joseph Pitcher will be held at the First United Church, Louisbourg from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday, May 29, 2017. Funeral service will take place, Tuesday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at First United Church with Reverend Emily Duggan officiating. Reception to follow at the First United Calvin Memorial Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Church, Louisbourg.
