Rachel Wilma Gallagher, age 78, of Amherst, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Monday, April 11, 2011.
Born in Little River, NS, she was a daughter of the late Titus and Minnie (Brown) Thompson.
Rachel was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the RCAF Club, Amherst. She loved socializing with friends and entertaining, she always enjoyed singing at the Hootenannies. In her younger days she worked as a nurse at the Highland View Regional Hospital, and was an avid dart player.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Richard (Teddy), Amherst, Katheryn "Kathy" Noble (Willie), Eastern Passage, NS; her son, Grant, Amherst; sister Nellie Veno, Amherst; brother Harold, Fredericton, NB; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Jack, sisters Evelyn Fletcher and Frances Terry, brothers Lorne, Marshall, Ralston and Hilbert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 2 pm, Rev. Byron Corkum officiating, followed by burial in the Birch Grove Cemetery, Little River.
