It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Betty Musgrave, age 98, on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Bras d’Or, on November 16, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary (Colvey) Day.
Betty devoted the majority of her life to caring for others. Her door was always open to whoever needed a place to stay or a helping hand. She willingly taxied family and friends alike to medical appointments, grocery stores and always had a van load who accompanied her to darts, card games, bingo and music nights at Indian Beach.
She was President of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club, where she introduced ceramics and weaving to the membership. She was the longtime president of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club and most recently a member of the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club. She was also a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
Betty is survived by her five children, Wendell (Patsy Quirk), Sydney Mines, Marilyn (Earl) Murrin, North Sydney, Brenda Enguehard (Frank Fennell), North Sydney, Valerie Musgrave (Steinar Engeset), Halifax and Trudy Vickers, North Sydney; her special brother-in-law, Horace Musgrave, North Sydney; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; by her brother, Les Day and sister, Dorothy Serroul, both of Bras d’Or; also by Bill, Juanita and Kevin LeBlanc whom she helped raise as her own, following the deaths of their parents.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Hammond Musgrave; her grandson, Trevor MacAulay; daughter-in-law, Sharyn Musgrave; special nieces, Doreen LeBlanc and Gloria Musgrave; brother-in-law, Melford Musgrave; sisters, Irene, Juanita, Margaret and Melinda; brothers, Wally, Gordie, Joey, Eugene, Hartland, Billy and Lawrence.
Sincere thank you from the family to Dr. Stephanie Langley and the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for the excellent care given to Betty over the years.
