It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Bernard Joseph Edwards, 73, of New Waterford on May 29, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Nora Edwards.
Bernie was employed with the Adult Vocational Training Center in Point Edward for over 25 years. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan and could often be seen at Tim Hortons chatting with his friends.
Surviving are nephews, Arnie (Nicole) Nason, New Waterford, Morris Nason, Florida; nieces, Tracy Dove, Sydney River, Karen (Brent) MacPherson, Gardiner Mines, Kelly (Lyndon) Chiasson, Okotoks, AB; grandnephew, Ryan; grandnieces, Rhodena, Rebecca, Rolanda, Gracie, Abby, Madison, Meaghan; Tara and her children, Navaeh and Kaylee-Rae, with whom he had a special bond; cousin and special friend, Ray MacIsaac, who was always there for Bernie in his time of need; sister-in-law, Marilyn Edwards, New Waterford. Bernie was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his mother, Bernie was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy and Lennie; sisters, Tina and Irene; companion, Rita Smith; sister-in-law, Loretta; nephew-in-law, Glen Dove.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 1-2 p.m. with a prayer service to follow, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Father Ray Huntley officiating.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
