LAWRENCE Sr., Ellsworth Leroy – age 90 of Veterans Place, formerly of Greenville, passed away May 31st, 2017 at Veterans Place in Yarmouth. Born October 19, 1926 in Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth Co., N.S. he was one of 14 children of the late Alvin and Mabel (Tasco) Lawrence; 9 sons and 5 daughters. Known as the Greenville Flash, Ellsworth served in the Army for 26 years. During this time he did two tours in Germany as well as the Korean War and Egypt. Ellsworth was recognized for his service and received the following medals and decorations; France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal (1939-1945), United Nations Service Medal, United Nations Emergency Force Medal and the Canadian Force’s Decoration and Clasp. After his time in the Army, Ellsworth drove a school bus for 17 years. He is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 and member of the Greenville Church, Yarmouth. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Muriel (Suzy), Greenville; sons, Raymond (Jane), Ontario, Ellsworth Leroy Jr. (Maxine), Edmonton, Tony (Angela) Ontario, and Elton (Katrina), Edmonton; daughter, Corrine Lawrence, Vancouver; sister, Eunice, Halifax, and 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sisters, Sylvia, Alberta, Juanita, Henrietta; brothers, Alvin Jr., Delacey, Raymond, Garfield and Lorenzo. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 with a Legion Service at 7:30 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 7th at 2 p.m. with Rev Robert Gates officiating. Interment will take place in Greenville Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to Veterans Place, Alzheimer’s Society or the Charity of your choice.
