GABRIEL, Viola Louise – age 88, South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., formerly of Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Born January 17, 1929 in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Rodney “Rod” and Laura (Muise) Wesley. Viola had worked at Bonda Textiles, IMO Fisheries, Kennebec Fisheries and at Tidal View Manor. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzle books, watching the news and sneaking the occasional snack! Viola loved the Lord and had a strong Christian faith. She will be remembered as a loving and wonderful mother who was very supportive, always putting others ahead of herself. She will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Shirley (Dustin) Saulnier, South Ohio; Laura Smith (Rob), Yarmouth; Ruth (Clarence) Miller, Saint John, NB; Emily Dalton, Yarmouth; Patricia “Patsy” Wesley, Halifax; Alberta Eatmon, Winnipeg, MB; Lillian (George) Gaudon, Stephenville, NF and sons, Leonard Gabriel, Yarmouth and Albert “Manny” Gabriel, Ottawa, ON. Also surviving are 49 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, along with brothers, Martin Wesley, Vacouver, BC and Stanley Wesley, Toronto, ON. Aside from her parents, Rod and Julia, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Gabriel, as well as by a daughter, Carol Gabriel; sisters, Alice, Mildred, Gladys and Helen; brothers, Frank, Jim, Victor and Danny. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday evenings, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Friday, June 9, all at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Pastor Allen Doucette officiated. Cremation followed the service and interment will take place at a later time in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tyler Green and Paula Watkins from Palliative Care for the care they showed Viola and her family throughout the last few months, as well as a special thank you to Pastor Allen.
