It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Cecil Finney, age 67, on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Cecil and Edena (Jessome) Finney.
Cecil was a carpenter by trade and worked with Sydney Millwork Ltd. in Sydney for 23 years.
He enjoyed being outdoors with his family and friends and was an avid fisherman. Cecil was a happy, easy going man with a great sense of humour and the ability to make people laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Angie (Cox) Finney; his three children, Carolyn Finney (Jeff), Fonthill, ON; Ed (Amy) Finney, Halifax and James Finney, St. Catharines, ON; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Danny, Karl, Hannah, Ronny, Tessa, Tanner and Emma, and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Declan. Also by his seven siblings, Joan Soper, Victoria, BC, Janet Finney, Millville, Danny (Bernadette) Finney, Mary (Kenny) Jackson, Stephen (Carolyn) Finney, all of Long Island, Sara (John) MacLean, Beaverbank, NS and Susan (Brian) Gear, Alder Point; many nieces and nephews; by his special pets, Caper, Sheena and Tiger, and by his in-laws, the Cox family of North Sydney.
Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Shirley Cox; father-in-law, Freeman Cox, and by his faithful fishing buddy, his dog Storm.
There will be no visitation by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
Memorial donation may be made to the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
