Melby, Steven – obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Roy Melby on June 10, 2017 at the Royal University Hospital. Steven was born on September 27, 1971 in Calgary and grew up in Birch Hills, SK, where he attended school until his graduation. His favorite past-times were socializing and sports. He played hockey, basketball, badminton, golf and enjoyed skiing and swimming. Growing up around the farm he enjoyed operating the machinery and always put in a hard day’s work alongside his many family members. After graduation, Steve attended Kelsey to become a welder. He held down various jobs in Saskatoon with his last being at Doepker Industries as Crew Chief. In the summers, he enjoyed playing slow pitch, and in the same manner as his grandparents, in June 1997 he met the girl who would make his life complete. Steven and Caren (Procyshyn) were married on August 7, 1999 with many of his family and friends in attendance. Steve and Caren lived on an acreage near Aberdeen and spent nearly every summer weekend travelling from Aberdeen back to Birch Hills to see friends and family and to golf. Some of the best nights were just as simple as sitting in the tent trailer, listening to Saturday Night Old Time Dance Party, playing cards and hanging out. Steven leaves behind his wife: Caren; parents: Ken and Edith Melby; his brother and sister-in-law: Darren and Amy Melby, and niece Makenna; mother-in-law: Sharon Procyshyn; his in-laws: Sandy and Pat Procyshyn; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Tige and Heather Procyshyn, and nieces Morgan, Callen and Amy; close friends: Nadine, Mason and Josie Procyshyn; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by: his grandparents: Dan and Marie Melby, Frank and Laura Tilford; his uncles: Mervin Melby, Glenn Hill and Grant Tilford, and his auntie: Lorette Hill. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Birch Hills Civic Centre, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at St. Saviour’s cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Steven may do so to the Birch Hills Golf Course. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Tracy-Lynn Switzer, Funeral Directors. Condolences may be left for the family at www.MacKenzieChapel.ca 306.763.8488
