William Ananias King

76, Prince Edward Island, Louisbourg. It is with deep sadness that we, the family of William (Bill) Ananias King announce his passing on June 15th, 2017 at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on September 21st, 1940, he was the son of the late Ananias and Mildred (Retford) King. Bill grew up in Louisbourg, leaving at a young age to pursue a career on the ice breakers and later as a marine engineer with Marine Atlantic on the Borden/Cape Tormentine ferries. Having spent 45 years living in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, he then returned to Louisbourg to be near family while dealing with health issues. During his retirement, Bill spent many hours creating wooden treasures for family and friends, riding his motor bike around the island, and doing his daily crosswords and online games. Listening to Newfoundland music, growing plants and vegetables passed many happy hours, and the highlight of each year was the July 1st Lawn Dart Party, held in his yard and attended by all the friends and neighbours on Convent Street. Bill is survived by his three sisters – Edith King (Frank Cathcart) Louisbourg; Irma (Clayton) Murray, Louisbourg (with whom he resided) and Carolyn (David) Roper, Halifax. Sister-in-law Doris King (Louisbourg), aunts Myrtle King and Annie Mae MacInnis, Port Hawksberry. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Good friends Reg and Robbie MacLellan, Cindy and David MacArthur and extra special buddy Dale and Carolyn MacWilliams, all of Summerside, P. E. I. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Lloyd in 2007. Visitation for Bill King will be held on Saturday June 24th, 2017 from 1 – 2 p.m. at the SW Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney, NS. Visitation will be followed by a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow service. Internment at Loch End Cemetery, Catalone. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to AnCala Palliative Care Unit, CBRH, VON Society or First United Church, Louisbourg.
