It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Lorne E. Smith on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.
He was born on July 9, 1921 to the late Charles and Anna Smith.
Dad loved his children and took pride in his grandchildren’s accomplishments. He was a true nature lover. Birthdays and Christmas were always celebrated in grand fashion. Dad was a proud WW II navy man and a steelworker until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid skater; three times a week until the age of 75. Up to the end, you could find him on his scooter from Sydney River to Sydney Forks. He is survived by sons, Kenneth (Diana), Michael (Hazel); daughters, Lorna MacKinnon and Diane MacIsaac. Also survived by brother, Fabian (Valerie); grandchildren, AnnMarie and Donald MacKinnon; Simon and Christian Smith; Charlotte and Laurn MacIsaac; special new great grandchild Xavier Lorne Davidge Smith and daughters-in-law Shelly Taylor and Leah Smith. Lorne was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette (MacKinnon), sons-in-law, Michael D. MacIsaac and Michael J. MacKinnon and sister-in-law, Lydia (Black) Smith. Special thanks to the Renal Dialysis Unit, C.B. Regional Hospital who treated dad like gold for over ten years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Renal Dialysis Unit. Visitation for Mr. Smith will take place on Sunday, June 25 from 2- 4 & 7- 9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, East Bay.
