Passed on: June 20th, 2017

Sister Teresa Kathleen Morrison died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the CND Health Care Center, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, NS, on March 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen (MacKinnon) Morrison.
Teresa entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in August, 1948 and made profession in 1950. That same year she began what was to be a fulfilling career in education, teaching at St. Joseph’s School, Park Junior High and Don Bosco Junior High in Sydney. In 1966, she moved to St. Martin’s Convent in New Victoria, teaching in the high school there before transferring to Breton Education Center when it opened in 1971. In 1976, she was granted a sabbatical and enrolled in the Library Science program at Dalhousie University. Two years later she returned to BEC as librarian and remained there until her retirement in 1988. In all these years, Teresa proved herself to be a dedicated, well respected and much-loved educator.
After her years of service in the school system, Sister Teresa spent several years working for the Diocese of Antigonish in the Sydney Marriage Tribunal Office. In 1996 she generously accepted an appointment to Montreal where, for eight years, she worked with our CND historians and archivists at the renowned Bonsecours chapel/Marguerite Bourgeoys museum. In 2004, she returned to the Maritimes volunteering her services at Notre Dame Convent in Baddeck. In 2007, her health declining, Teresa moved into assisted living at Holy Redeemer Convent and in 2011 she entered our long-term Health Care Center. As befitting the beautiful and gentle person she was, Teresa was very gently and compassionately ministered to by her care-givers. To all of them, we, the sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, extend our deepest gratitude.
Teresa is survived by one brother, David, Hamilton, ON, and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Sr. Mary C, CND, Sr. Kathleen, CSM and Virginia Dowling, and by her brothers, Patrick, Ramsay, Ralph and John.
Visitation for Sister Teresa will be held Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11
a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, with Rev Bill Burke officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
