My Dad, My Angel

Your battle is now over, no more tears
flowing down your cheek,
no more pain, no more suffering, and you
are no longer weak.
I still do not understand why you had to go,
but I am proud to say you are my dad, the
greatest man I’ve ever known.
You were always there for me and never once
made me cry,
until the day you closed your eyes and had to
say goodbye,
Now you are my Angel, so spread your wings
out wide,
please wrap them around me whenever you
see me cry.
Our time together was memorable and God
took you way too fast,
But the most precious thing to me was you
Being there for my first breath,
And me being there for your last.

James childhood dream came true when he moved from Woodstock, New Brunswick and began his career with the Prince Albert Police Service on October 8, 1972. He received many commendations throughout his career, for his thoroughness, professionalism and compassion. Most will affiliate his time on the police force spent in patrol and the K-9 unit with his police dog Ketchum. A police officer he was as witnessed by the high speed police pursuit of two evicted convicts from Washington prison which resulted in a shootout south of Prince Albert where several shots were fired at the police van resulting in Constable Kidney being shot severing his trigger finger, none the less resulting in an arrest. He also spent numerous years even into retirement working with the Catholic Family Outreach Department. James took pride in his involvement with initiating the Prince Albert Police and Corrections Museum. James career gave him the opportunity to guide youth independent of his job, and the testimonials today speak of this where youth would purposely drive by his home to see if he was sitting out front so they could talk with him. He was known as a honest, direct and fair man who cared about people which made him such a great person.

MY PARTNER
My dog is more than my partner you see,
He is a very good friend to me.
He's the nose I don't have, the eyes I have not,
He's one of the best partners most cops don't got.
Day by day we do what we do best,
His four paws never seem to rest.
He always does whatever I ask,
Seeming to enjoy every task.
I know one day his work will be done,
But for now we can only have fun.
For my dog is more than a partner to me,
My dog is my best friend and he always will be.

James greatest passion was the four women and two grandchildren in his life, for whom he lived whole heartedly and gave him a purpose in life that could be achieved through no other career, which he immensely enjoyed upon his retirement after 30 years of service with the Police Department in February, 2002. James had a love for nature and the outdoors as witnessed by all the camping trips at Greenwater Provincial Park with family and friends. He built a beautiful cascading fish pond, with an abundance of gold fish situated in a manicured yard that is second to none, where he would spend countless hours enjoying his labour of love, reminiscing around an outdoor fire pit. The neighbourhood children would all look forward to enjoying their visits with James. James was an incredible family man, and his passing will have not only a lasting effect on his family, but all those he had contact with. In accordance with James’ wishes, a Private Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of James may be made to OSI-Can, www.osican.ca. I seem gone from you now, but I know that somehow
We will reunite in another place
For “The good they die young,” is a song often sung,
But this verse is flawed on its face.
You see the good don’t die young but instead they live on,
In memories, and many a heart.
The good that you do does not die when you do.
For the good, death’s not an end, but a start.
