Norma “Denise” Burton (Buckley) age 72 passed away peacefully at the QE II – Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by her family, on June 22, 2017 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Denise was born on June 18, 1945 in Sydney, NS to Andree and Roald Buckley.
Denise made the move to Halifax from Sydney where she worked as a lab technician at the IWK and raised her children in Clayton Park. Denise was a proud Cape Bretoner and animal lover. She loved watching her New England Patriots during the football season and watching her son and grandson play locally. She was always eager to head to the hockey arena, football field, or dance studio to watch and cheer on her grandkids. Denise was never too shy to spark up conversation with anyone. Her warm personality, infectious laugh, wit and humor will be missed.
Denise is survived by her husband, John Douglas Burton; her children, Andrea (O’Leary) Penner (Kal Penner) Ryan O’Leary (Kristin O’Leary); grandchildren, Jordan Miller (Alyssa), Ryan Buckingham, Brendan, Cullen, Quinlan, Katelynn O’Leary and her great-grandson, Jaxson Miller. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Buckley (Vicki) of Lunenburg. She is predeceased by her parents, Andree & Roald Buckley.
Cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date as those were her wishes. Her family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff in 8.2 at the QEII – Halifax Infirmary for the wonderful care Denise received in her final days. In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her name to Bide Awhile animal shelter in Halifax.
