Byron D. Brown

Born: August 15th, 1946

Passed on: July 5th, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Byron Christopher Douglas Brown, aged 70, regretfully announce his passing. Born August 15, 1946 he was the son of Stanley and Pearl Brown of Curling. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Judy (Nalepka) and their three children: Craig (Lisa), Alana (Shawn) and Rae (Stephen). As a youth he was known for his athleticism, love of motorcycles, and his keen ability to work with his hands. After graduating from Regina High School he went on to become a skilled carpenter which provided opportunity for him to work all over the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He was able to use this talent to build his own family home in Curling. In addition to his work as a tradesman, Byron demonstrated a passion for sporting pursuits including scuba diving, water skiing, and skating and loved sharing in these activities with his family. Byron was also a dedicated volunteer to the Canadian Red Cross. Donating blood over 100 times; this compassionate act had a significant impact on society. He sustained a serious brain injury in 1991 while working on the Hibernia Oil project. Though unable to continue his employment he remained active; enjoying leisurely walks, chats with his neighbors, and a good crossword puzzle. His pride in his children and grandchildren was evident to anyone who met him. It is with great fondness that his children recall his constant presence and enthusiasm for their activities and successes and nothing gave him more joy than hearing about a milestone or achievement of one of his precious grandchildren. Byron is also survived by his brother Bill and sister Maxine. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Pearl Brown. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home 218 Curling Street, Monday, July 10 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Curling Street, Tuesday, July 11 at 10:30 am with Father Don Leonard officiating with interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Memorial donations in Byron's name may be made to the SPCA - Bay of Islands Branch of NL, P.O. Box 7, Corner Brook, NL A2H 6C3.
