Anne Larrivee

Anne Larrivee

Passed on: July 24th, 2017

Our dear mother, grandmother, Baba, friend and mentor passed away at the age of 96. Anne’s life was one of struggle and joy. Anne was raised during the depression years in North Winnipeg. She lost her father at an early age but grew up in a loving family with her mother Maria, brother Tony, and sisters Jean, Veronica and Lasha. It was there that she became part of the progressive Ukrainian Canadian community that shaped the rest of her life and made her an ardent CCF and NDP supporter. Anne married Frank Kossick in 1942, and after living at the various Air Force bases where he was stationed, they eventually settled in Moose Jaw, on South Hill. And there they were surrounded by a very active Ukrainian Canadian community. At the Farmer Labour “Hall”, she made many perogies for many causes. Anne and Frank had five children – Joe, Diane, Don, Rhea and Valerie. Tragedy struck the family when Frank passed at 42 while working for the CPR. Anne had 5 children to take care of. She took to the task, obtaining more education to allow her more opportunities in the work force. Anne eventually worked as a ward clerk in the hospital system. In 1967 she met and married Henry Larrivee who farmed south of Moose Jaw. The farmer culture was another new experience for Anne to learn about and adapt to. They had a blended family, as Henry had two children as well – Lorraine and Beverly. Unfortunately, Henry passed away after 21 years of marriage. In 2003, Anne’s daughter Diane died suddenly and unexpectedly. This was another tragedy for Anne and our family. Through all the years, Anne sewed and knitted, making beautiful quilts, throws, sweaters, etc. She knitted scarves and tuques for children in Canada and Mozambique, who all received her warmth. She also fed us all, with the fantastic Ukrainian food she cooked. Anne loved to be fashionable. She is known for her great hats – and this love for hats has been passed down generation to generation. An avid follower of current events, she kept us all challenged with her intellect and opinions. Anne loved her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to have them surrounding her and keeping in touch by telephone. Anne’s presence will always be with our family – her hope for a world of justice and love for all. Thanks Mom, Grandmother, Baba! Anne was predeceased by two husbands – Frank Mitchell Kossick and Henry Larrivee; daughter Diane Gorsuch (husband Ivan-deceased); daughter-in-law Mary Cadman; sisters Jean Sawa and Veronica Cairns and brother Anthony Benton. She will be sadly missed by her children Joe Kossick (Shelley), Don Kossick (Denise Kouri), Rhea Denesik (Rodney) and Valerie St. Dennis (Dwight); Anne’s stepchildren Lorraine Deneka (Ron – deceased), Bev Lebedoff (Fred); Grandchildren Sean Gorsuch, Lise Kossick-Kouri (Ches Burns), Rosa Kossick-Kouri (Tim Howlett), Robert Kossick (Jacqueline), Nathan St Dennis (Clancy Todd), Tyrel Denesik, Tania Nieto (Edward), Nigel St Dennis (Andrianna), Cheryl Liebenau (Jeff) Michelle Kalma (Derek). Great grandchildren are Tomeia Gorsuch (father Sean), Liam and Kyra Gorsuch (mother Anna Maria and father Sean), Loa and Mani Kouri (mother Lise Kossick-Kouri and father Ches Burns), Danaea and Cayley Kossick (mother Jacqueline and father Robert), Natalie, Tyco and Levi St Dennis (mother Brianne and father Nathan), Emily Nieto (mother Tania and father Edward Nieto), Chantal and Courtney Liebenau (mother Cheryl and father Jeff), and Carter Kalma (mother Michelle and father Derek); sister Lasha Kirkpatrick as well relatives and friends in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, California and Michigan.
