PORTER, LaVaughn Alberta. 1924 - 2017. It is with deep sadness that the family of LaVaughn “Bonnie” Alberta (Cook) Porter - 92 of Grand Pré, Kings County, announces the death of their beloved mother who passed away at the Wolfville Nursing Home on July 31st 2017. Born in Wolfville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mabel (Rogers) Cook. After attending Wolfville High School she worked at Young’s/Palms Restaurant. In 1944 she married her late husband, Laurie K. Porter Sr. Together with her husband of 63 years they raised a beautiful family. She was known to many as “Bonnie”. She was a longstanding member of the Grand Pré Women’s Institute and the Wolfville Baptist Church where she enjoyed, in her earlier years, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She was known for her strong work ethic and her love for and dedication to her family of which she was extremely proud. A very busy woman with a large family, in her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening. Mom enjoyed growing up in Wolfville, loved her parents dearly and she will always be remembered as a loving sister to her brothers and sisters, who she adored. She will always be remembered by her children as one of the best moms, grandmother anyone could ask for. We will forever miss your beautiful smile and loving, caring nature. We will be together again mom. She is survived by five daughters, Marilyn (Douglas) Moore, Kentville, grandchildren, Sharman, Angie & Douglas Jr.; Donna (Greg) Marquis, Quispamsis, New Brunswick, grandson, Joey; Leona Porter, Wolfville, grandchildren, Meaghan & Hawley; Carolyn Porter, Lethbridge Alberta, granddaughter, Katelynn; Debra Porter (Mark) Bridgewater; seven sons, Dean (Brenda), Milford, grandson, Dean and grandchildren, Kimberly & Charles; Gerald (Shirley), Kentville, grandchildren, Melissa & Corinne; Donald (Lila), Port Williams, grandchildren, Teresa & Katrina; Lionel, Yarmouth; Laurie Jr., Grand Pré, grandchildren, Alicia & Gregory; Stephen (Alma), Hantsport, grandchildren, Kirt & Jennifer; Terry, Kentville, grandchildren, Kristen, Amelia, Jamie-Lee, Colton, Josh and Noah; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many partners and spouses of the grandchildren; brothers, Murray (Myrtle) Cook, Avonport; Lawrence, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Laurie, she was predeceased by a daughter, Judith; two sons, Reginald and Gregory; grandson, Justin; sisters, Marjorie (Ralph) (Jack), Jean (Chet), Jenesta (Vernie) and Rhoda; brothers, Kenneth (Cathy) and Cecil (Pauline); nephew, Frankie. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Funeral services will be held at the Wolfville Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, followed by a reception in the Church Hall, Reverend Gail Whalen Dunn officiating. Burial will take place in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Grand Pré Women’s Institute, Wolfville Baptist Church or the Wolfville Nursing Home. The Porter family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the kindness and support shown by the Wolfville Nursing Home over the past six years.
