Brenda Mae Dickie

Dickie, Brenda Mae – 78, Central Onslow, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Lake Munroe, Annapolis County, she was the daughter of the late Robie and Gladys (Cox) Munroe. Brenda went to school in Liverpool as a young child. The family later moved to the East end of Truro where she became a lifelong friend to Carol Dennis. She attended Truro Academy then went on to Acadia University to take Accounting. Brenda enjoyed watching her sons play sports growing up and most recently her grandson who is involved in baseball and hockey. She enjoyed attending the Holstein shows in the Maritimes with Vaughan and Dickie Bros herd then with Dickiedale and later with her son Wades’ herd of BV Holstein. The last couple of years she enjoyed going to her Grandson’s 4H shows. Brenda’s most favorite was old home week on Prince Edward Island, visiting her friends the Stewarts. Some of Brenda’s happiest times were spent over the past 45 years at their cottage in Brule, she especially enjoyed having her grandson and his friends visit, inviting the neighbors over for a chat on the deck, going for walks with Paulette Salsman. In Truro, Brenda enjoyed time going for walks with her friend, Katherin Dale, attending dances at the Onslow School with friends. She was very proud of the new cottage they built at Ives Beach in 2005. Brenda was always ready for a game of cards with the ladies. She was proud that Leta Hill thought she was the best card player she had ever played against. Over the years, Vaughan and Brenda would travel to Florida and California with the Old Timers Hockey members. They would try to get away from the cold every March and head to Florida for the month. She was past secretary of the Truro Women’s Golf Club and enjoyed curling in her younger years. Brenda enjoyed working for over 24 years in Admittance at the Colchester Regional Hospital. One of her biggest loses in life was her son, Sam passing away in 2004. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Vaughan; son, Wade, Truro Heights; grandson who meant the world to her, Logan. Predeceased by son, Sam and a child in infancy. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13 from 6-8 p.m.; memorial service on Monday, August 14 at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Interment to follow in Onslow Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity United Church, Onslow or Onslow Island Cemetery or a charity of choice.
