Allen Muise

Born In: Amirault's Hill

Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 5th, 2017

MUISE, Allen Louie (aka Alain Meuse) – Age 75, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2017, with family at his side. Allen was born in Amirault's Hill and a long-time resident of Yarmouth. He was the son of the late Lévi and Antoinette (LeBlanc) Muise. Allen leaves behind daughter, Barb (Paul Smith) of Waterloo, ON; son, Kevin (Mirella) Muise of Kitchener, ON; and daughter Deborah Muise of San Francisco, CA; his grand-children, Courtney Muise and Holly (Kevin) Saddler, and great grand-child Logan, all of Cambridge, ON. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Rose) Muise, and step-mother, Cécile Muise of Amirault’s Hill; his uncle, Basil (Jeanette) LeBlanc, Franklin, MA; aunt Pauline Smith, Braintree, MA; as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis (Donald) Pothier, and Joan (Emile) Babin; and his nephew, Steve Pothier. Allen studied at Ryerson University in Toronto and spent over four decades as a Yarmouth area print journalist up to his retirement (Yarmouth Herald, Vanguard, Sou’Wester, and numerous other publications). He continued to write monthly articles for the Navigator for another 15 years, right up until the week of his passing. He was well read and could talk to anyone on most any topic. He had a passion for reading (loved his books and sharing them with others) and cooking (he could make a mean rappie pie!), and photography (loved to take and share his pictures). He was a natural athlete, having played football at Ryerson (hadn’t picked up a football in his life); baseball (excellent pitcher and batter); hockey; and in latter years took up the sport of golf, which became his newest passion at which he once again excelled. He loved the outdoors and his annual fishing and hunting trips with his buddies (for which he claimed himself the chef whether they liked it or not). Allen will be greatly missed by his family, his golfing, fishing and hunting buddies, and his many other friends who have endless stories of friendship and fun times to tell. Allen’s family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and caregivers at Yarmouth Regional Hospital who cared for their Dad through the years, and particularly in this last most challenging year, and a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers in the ICU and Palliative Care Units, whose care and compassion helped him (and his family) through the recent difficult time. Expressions of sympathy: In lieu of flowers, contributions to any of the following would be appreciated: Asthma Canada; Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada; Canadian Liver Foundation; the Kidney Foundation of Canada; or Yarmouth Regional Hospital Foundation. Cremation has taken place and Allen’s family received relatives and friends on Thursday, August 10th from 1-3 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel (29 Albert St., Yarmouth, NS), immediately followed by a special memorial service. A *Celebration of Allen’s life* will follow in the coming months – friends and family will be notified of the date and be invited to share the many stories and memories.
