New Glasgow - The death of June Winnifred (MacKenzie) Kalbfleisch occurred peacefully August 9th, 2017 at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home.
Born June 2nd, 1924, she was a daughter of John A. (Jack) and Grace (DeVenne) MacKenzie.
Mum spent many years as a history teacher at the New Glasgow High School before moving to the West Side School for the last 10 years of her career. She was an avid traveller, both before and after her retirement, and instilled that love of travel in both her children. She became even busier after her retirement as she became more involved as a volunteer with the IODE and Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a long term and active member of Trinity United Church and the UCW.
She loved to play bridge and played in many groups over the years. Later in life she also found dominoes and would play anytime, anywhere.
She was predeceased by both her parents and her only sibling, her sister, Lennie MacDougall.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie (Randy) Slivocka, New Glasgow, son, Fred (Marcela Gonzales), Temuco, Chile and two grandchildren, Iñaki and Stefan Kalbfleisch, also of Chile. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Raymond MacDougall and niece, Jacqueline, of New Glasgow.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeans and the staff at Ivey’s Terrace and Valley View Villa for their care and compassion for Mum over the past 5 years.
To allow family to arrive from overseas, visitation will be held Thursday, August 31st, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with the funeral service 1 pm, Friday, September 1st at Trinity United Church, Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating.
Donations in June’s memory may be made to Trinity United Church, the local SPCA or a charity of your choice.
