NICKERSON, Capt. Edward James – Little River Harbour Road, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully at home on Deep Cove Island, with his daughter Donna, son-in-law Greg and best bud (grandson) Gilles by his side. Born March 28, 1934 in Comeau’s Hill, he was the son of the late Gordon and Ethel (Kenney) Nickerson. Edward was a very private man who loved to stretch the limits. Edward started fishing full time at the young age of 11 with his father. At 17, he skippered his own fishing boat until he retired in 1995 and had been a constant mentor to his grandsons. Edward enjoyed travelling, fishing and telling tall tales. Edwards favorite place to be was on Deep Cove Island with his best friend and brother, Frank. Everybody knew Edward as the famous “Pops”. Until the end, he enjoyed celebrating life with the boys (you know who you are). Edward is survived by his three daughters; Donna (Gregory) LeBlanc, Lower Wedgeport; Jocelyn Nickerson, Upper Wedgeport; Kathy (Vernon) Corporon, Lower Wedgeport; grandchildren, Jason (Jody) Nickerson, Jacques (Kelley) Leblanc, Joshua (Melissa) Doucette, Gilles (Meagan) LeBlanc, Jocelyne (Georges) d’Entremont, Trisha (Tyson Van der Grinten) Nickerson, Tristan Yockell, Tessa (Chad d’Entremont) Corporon; great grandchildren, Chloe, Trinity, Lauren, Autumn, Ellie, Liam, Mason, Damien, Gracie, Owen, Alyssa, Émée and one more on the way; his only surviving sibling, George (Little George) Nickerson, Veterans Place, Yarmouth. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Saulnier) Nickerson; and siblings, Violet, Lois, Ruth, Herman, Frank, Lorraine, Big Bob, Johnny, Betty. A deep appreciation goes to Ed Clairmont who has been a very good friend and who helped make it possible for Edward to live out his final years at home overlooking the water that he dearly loved; Yarmouth Argyle Home Support, Simon LeBlanc and Wedgeport and Districts Fire Department First Responders Steven Jacquard, Evan LeBlanc and Roy LeBlanc for his boat. In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation; a private celebration of Edward’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Wedgeport & Districts Volunteer Fire Department or to a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth, where you may leave messages of condolence or sign the on-line guestbook by visiting www.huskilson.net
