POTHIER, Marie Evelyn “Lyn” - Lyn of Lower Wedgeport, NS passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary from post-operative complications with her son, Kenny and daughter-in-law, Verna Wirth at her side. Lyn was the daughter of the late George and Lydia (Cottreau) Pothier, also of Lower Wedgeport. Lyn, also affectionately known as “grammy” or “tante Lyn” to many, was a kind and generous soul who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, Kenny (Verna), granddaughter Amanda Lyn of Victoria, B.C.; brothers Ernie (Zelma), John (Marie), nieces and nephews: Paul, Lee, Todd, Owen, Bonnie, Stephen, Shelley, Brenda, Gail, Rena, Ernie and Greg; and numerous Canadian and American cousins. As well, she will be greatly missed by Verna’s family: Hilda (Malcolm) and her children, Olwen (Dave) and their children and by Kenny’s brothers and sister: David, Jeannine and Christopher Carter. She is predeceased by her sister, Geraldine (late Norbert), brothers Richard (late Vicky) and Laurent (Betty). Raised in a fishing family, she spent much of her early childhood living in a “shanty” on Harris Island, her father fishing and running the island’s generator, and her mother, the storekeeper. Upon graduating from the Yarmouth Vocational School she went on to work in Halifax, Boston and Yarmouth, lastly retiring from the federal public service from what is now called Service Canada. She made many friends amongst her colleagues. Devoted daughter, she looked after her mother and father until their passing. Following retirement and throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and family, and travelling in Canada and abroad (Hawaii, Bonaire, New England, Mexico, Caribbean Cruises, and St. Pierre et Miquelon). Lyn was thankful for the prayers and good wishes and the wonderful care and dedication she received from the Halifax Infirmary medical staff. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, with visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 18 at the Wedgeport Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Michael’s Cemetery Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
