Obituary
Mary Elizabeth (Mickey) Baird
January 26th 1954 – August 11th 2017

Mickey was born on January 26, 1954 in Gander, Newfoundland, the youngest child of the Baird family of 8 Memorial Drive. She passed from her earthly life on August 11, 2017 with her husband Rick and sister Jane at her side. Mickey graduated from Western Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1986 and spent most of her career at James Paton Hospital in Gander. This was an obvious natural calling. She had an innate ability to empathize and provide comfort to people who are sick and under emotional stress, which made her a tremendous emergency room nurse. Mickey’s caring skills really came to the fore as her Mom and Dad got older. In their waning years, both enjoyed a wonderful quality of life that could not have been possible without her love, care and devotion. Everyone who knew Mickey knew how much she loved animals. She and Rick shared their lives with many pets, mainly dogs but also her horse Ducky. Mickey rescued Ducky from a bad situation, and under her watch, Ducky quickly fattened up and lived a healthy and carefree life to the end of her days. One of Mickey’s most enduring legacies will be how she stayed close to friends over her entire lifetime. Many of these friends are here today to wish her a loving farewell. She maintained her friendships by staying in touch, never hesitating to call on them when they needed it most, and never being reluctant to share her contagious laugh and beautiful smile. Mickey passed away peacefully in her home in Traytown on August 11, 2017. She was predeceased by her mother Mary (Snartt) and her father Edgar Baird. Left to mourn are her husband Rick Suley and his family Wayne, Donna, Lorraine and Cathy, and Mickey’s family William (Cathy), Jane (Richard Sharp) and John, her nephews Tom and Alan, and many friends gained from a lifetime of caring and sharing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gander SPCA. In your mind’s eye picture Mickey and Ducky galloping off into the sky to heaven.
