ERNEST 'CHAMP' HANNIGAN

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ernest “Champ” Hannigan on August 21, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late George and Josephine (Muise) Hannigan.
Champ worked as a coal miner in Lingan Colliery and also as a construction worker. A man of great faith, his church was very important to him. Besides his family and religion, his other great passion was boxing, a family trait among the Hannigan boys.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Currie); sons, Thomas (Juanita), David (Leah); daughters, Maureen (Kevin), Kathleen (Terry); sister, Alice (Everett); his grandchildren, Lindsay, Bianca, Candylee, Shaun, Jenna, Jake, Marilou and Richard; as well as one great-grandchild, Nevaeh.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Pat, Leo, Archie, Harold, Greg and sisters, Kay and Mary-Ellen.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street, all are welcome.
