Lorna Marie Doucette

Passed on: August 26th, 2017

On August 26, 2017 our mother Lorna (MacKinnon) Doucette passed away at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. It was a beautiful calm morning and knowing that her husband Johnny had been patiently waiting for her, she decided to finally join him and go fishing.
Before mom passed away, she said; "you know your father has had plenty of time fishing by himself. It's time for me to go join him". If you knew Lorna and Johnny, then you'd know that their love for each other was a gift to witness.
But for as much as she missed Johnny, she still loved life. She was a brilliant woman, a lifelong learner, always reading, always gaining more knowledge. She was an incredible gardener and she loved plants; she made art out of living things and it was beautiful.
Mom always said that all she ever wanted to do in her life was be a wife, mother and to have a family. She was orphaned as a child, so family meant everything to her. She dedicated her life to being a mother and later she perfected her skills as a grandmother.
Her grandchildren became the very heartbeat in her chest and gave her more joy and happiness in her later years than anything else.
She was known by many names in life, Lorna, Mom, Grammie and Goingie, but in the end, she always preferred the majestic title of GRANDMOTHER.
Lorna is survived by her sons, Jack, Fred (Raylene), and daughter, Madonna (Mary); grandchildren, Breton (Brittany), Zachary, Gabriel, Rowan, Holly, Julia, Jess and Sarah, and brother, Frederick ‘Buddy’ MacKenzie. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
There will be no visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, please be extra kind to each other and feed a hungry belly, or make a memorial donation to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
At this time, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful nurses from the VON who cared for our mother the past few years and a special
thanks to Dr. Littlejohn and the nursing staff at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Online condolences to the family may be expressed at; www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
