We, the family, regret to announce the sudden passing of Donald Allister MacRae after a brief illness in Cape Breton Regional Hospital on August 30, 2017. He was born July 18, 1954 in Sydney Mines to the late Allister and Florence MacRae. Donald was fiercely independent while living under the umbrella of Community Housing for many years. He will be missed by his AA buddies as well as everyone else who knew him, especially long time friend Donnie Campbell. His many nieces and nephews are going to miss their Uncle Donald. A kind and modest man, he was always willing , to lend a hand. He always visited Joe Peck’s Garage whenever he went to Sydney Mines. Donald enjoyed his daily coffee from Tim’s. Donald is survived by sisters, MaryLee (Louis Bernard), Ontario, Libby (John Henderson), Benacadie, Linda (Mark Tushaus), Sydney, and brother, Billie (Rose), Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by sisters, Beverly (Jimmie Gouthro), Miriam (David LeBlanc), and brother, Kenny (Marcella). We would also like to thank the staff of 3B and the Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care. We will miss you Donald. Visitation will take place Saturday, September 2 from 12-2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A Celebration of his Life will follow at 2 in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the Feral Cat Society, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.chantfuneralhome.ca.
