MacKAY, George Ernest “Woodpecker” -65, of South Foord St., Stellarton and formerly of Pictou, passed away September 15, 2017 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, July 24, 1952, he was the only son of the late Clarence A. A. MacKay and Ethel Doreen (Colson) MacKay. He held various jobs in his life but enjoyed working on old cars and trucks the most. He also was a member of the Antigonish Amateur Radio Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed. George loved CB Radio, Ham Radio and was fluent with Morse Code. He leaves behind many friends, both near and far. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cathy (Chisholm), Stellarton; sons, Billy (Jennifer Redmond), Scotsburn; David (Andrea Helin), at home; daughter, Jenny (Daniell Mitchell), Salt Springs; grandson, Colton MacKay; granddaughter, Madelynn Mitchell; step-grandchildren, Cassie & Frank Redmond; sisters, Betty MacIntosh, Pictou; Linda (Chester) Greenlaw, Sunnybrae; nephews, Melvin Greenlaw (Howie Malloy), Dartmouth; Alex Greenlaw (Jean Champion), Pictou; Stacy Greenlaw (Terry Campbell), New Glasgow, Roddie MacKeigan, Pictou; great nephew, Nathan Greenlaw, Three Brooks; great niece, Morgan Greenlaw, Three Brooks. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Anne O’Toole, Westville, and his fur baby cat, Garfield. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Anne Chisholm and father-in-law, Chuck Chisholm; sister, Rose Mary MacKay. Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM Tuesday with funeral to follow at 3 PM in the McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Burial will be in the Seaview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA.
