Francis Carl (Frankie) Buckingham

Born: November 5th, 1932

Passed on: September 19th, 2017

Francis Carl (Frankie) Buckingham of Edgar Street passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
He was born November 5th, 1932 and a lifetime resident of Mira Road and a former voluntary fireman for the area. He also worked for several years at the steel plant in Sydney.
Frankie was a caring man who loved his family and cherished his many friendships. He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the funniest man in the room, as witnessed at many a Sunday dinner and family outing. He was an avid boxing and hockey fan, who enjoyed fierce debate over the matches and games. He could be seen lending a hand to the boxers down at Venetian Gardens or spotted at his kids and grandkid’s sporting events. Hockey Night in Canada was a staple each Saturday night in the Buckingham household for decades. Plenty of cheering and critiquing of players could be heard up and down Edgar Street on the weekend. When the games weren’t on, the guitars and music could be heard playing. Frankie loved his country music. Strumming the guitar with friends and neighbors was something he delighted in for years.
But the apple of his eye was clearly, Laurel Mary. She was his loving wife of 65 years and the rock in which the foundation of the family was built. No two people were more suited to tackle the hard times and laugh through the best of days.
Besides his loving wife Frankie is survived by daughter, Sharon (Ray); sons, Lawrence (Eve), Roy (Julie), and Fred (Charlotte); sisters, Mary and Ann; brother, Victor; grandchildren, Dallas (Sheri), Brandy, Lindsay (Scott), Jonathan, Brandon, Alan (Jessica), Amy (Jordan), Brighton; as well as great-grandchildren, Landon and Lane.
Besides his parents, Frankie is predeceased by sons, Alan and Richard; as well as sisters, Theresa, Vilma and Ruth.
Visitation will take place Friday, September 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
Frankie’s Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. Reception with the family to follow.
Donations in Frankie’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
