Age 97 of Dartmouth passed away September 23, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Burin, NL, he was the son of the late Harold and Sarah (DeGrish) Simms. Herbert was first draft aircrew for the RAF from NL on August 22, 1940. He trained in Canada and the United Kingdom. He served in the United Kingdom, Middle East, East Africa, Egypt and the Persian Gulf. After his discharge from the RAF in 1945 he studied at the University of New Brunswick, graduating in 1949 he joined the Federal Government Civil Service retiring in 1984 after 40 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Noreen Helen Murphy, daughters: Suzanne Ruiz and Judith (Terry) Pass, both of California, grandchildren: Eric Ruiz, Jason Munday, William Hitchcock Jr. and Nicholas Pass. He was predeceased by his twin brother Jack. Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 27, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth.
