Thomas Washburn

WASHBURN, THOMAS - Thomas Robert Washburn, born March 11, 1943; passed away on April 19, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharron Bryan Washburn and his loyal companion, Bogie Bear. He has three daughters in Canada, Jody Larson, Marti Washburn and Stephanie Washburn, and one stepdaughter; Mauree Booth in Tampa. Tom as two granddaughters in Canada, Jade Larson and Inara Washburn; and three grandsons in Tampa – Josh, Jordan and Zach Booth. He is survived by four siblings in Canada- Leroy, Alan and Irl Washburn and Diana Jensen, and one sister in England, Betty Washburn. Tom also has many nieces, nephews and other family members in both countries. He was raised in Blackville, Canada; where he served as a Cadet in the Canadian Military as a young man. He played semi-pro hockey and baseball and also competed in the Calgary-Alberta Rodeo. He spent his professional life in wholesale construction materials sales as a District Manager and later as a National Sales Representative, where he traveled extensively throughout the United States. Tom’s passion was Fly Fishing! He was also a lover of golf and an avid collector of fishing memorabilia. Probably Tom’s greatest gift was his love for people and because of this, he had many friends through life! Very generous, he would give you the shirt off his back!
A celebration of his life is going to be held at his home church, Exciting Idlewild Baptist, Thursday, April 21, 2011. The Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm and the Service will begin at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to: USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, with checks made payable to: USF Foundation, Inc. and “Tom Washburn” in the memo area.
