Albert Ross McCalmon
September 14, 1921 - September 28, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Albert McCalmon announces his passing on September 28, 2017 at the age of 96. Albert was predeceased by Wanda, his wife of 66 years and will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sandra (Bernie) Gareau, Ken (Debbie), and Evan (Monique). Albert will also be fondly remembered by his six grandsons Chad Gareau, Shawn (Jenna) Gareau, Ryan (Julie) Gareau, Ross McCalmon, Kevin (Amber) McCalmon, and Eric (Laura) McCalmon; and his eleven greatgrandchildren Ashley (Brendin), Noah, Connor, Kain, Jackson and Xander Gareau and Regan, Cole, Jae, Cassidy and Eli McCalmon and two more great grandchildren on the way; his sisters Tress, Mavis, Wilma (John), and Jane (Bill) and his brother Gerald (Marilyn). Born on Sept 14, 1921 in Lumsden, Sask. to Earl and Norma McCalmon, he was eleven years old when they moved to the Paddockwood area and attended Melba school. He started farming at a young age with his father and brothers, served overseas with the Regina Rifle Regiment during the Second World War. Upon discharge from the army, he purchased farm land and started farming on his own. He met Mom while she was teaching at Melba school and they were married April 18, 1949 and took up residence on the farm. Together they would raise three children with dad farming and mom teaching. In 1985, mom and dad moved to the village of Paddockwood where he enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and numerous friends. He also enjoyed golfing and gardening in the summer, curling and bowling in the winter. With a love for travel, both mom and dad discovered various parts of Canada and the USA. Moving to Prince Albert in 2005, Dad lived fully, enjoying visits from his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by us all but we know that he’s happy to be reunited with mom. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Albert to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9 or the Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0Z9. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Private Family Interment will be at the South Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
