Jean “Emery” Pothier – 99, of Kentville, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 in the Veteran’s Unit of Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Plymouth, Yarmouth County he was the eldest of fifteen children of the late Jean Edmund and Eulalie (Pothier) Pothier. Emery was a Veteran of the Second World War. He served five years overseas, serving in Scotland, England, Sicily, Italy, Holland, France, and Germany with the West Nova Scotia Regiment and continued to serve as a reservist after the war. He was a life member of the Memory Club in the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Emery was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, where he served terms as President, Past President and other offices. He also received the Palm Leaf award. He worked for the Willett Fruit Company and later a car salesman until his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Valerie (James) Brown, Greenwich; four sons, Andrew (Donna), White Rock, BC; Peter (Heather), Tupper Lake; Eugene “Archie” (Amy), Canaan; Colin (Valerie), Kentville; a sister, Ella (James) Henderson, Onslow; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Whale) Pothier; thirteen siblings. Visitation was held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 with a Royal Canadian Legion service at 7:30 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, Deacon Don Boudreau officiating. Interment took place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Veteran’s Unit for their care, kindness and compassion.
