Raymond Vardy, 78, of New Waterford passed away Oct. 3, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Russell and Sadie (Thomas) Vardy.
He was a member of St. Leonard’s parish.
Ray was a coalminer. He loved to play darts, crib and go fishing. He was a sports fan, having been a member of the New Waterford Stags, and following the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice (Williams); sons, Duane (Edwina), New Waterford, Danny (Gail), Ontario; daughters, Raylene, Ontario and Shelly (Jason), New Waterford; sister, Catherine, New Waterford; brother, Lorway (Margaret), New Waterford; grandchildren, Russell (Melissa), Travis, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Benjamin; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Danny, Russell and Harold; sister, Theresa; grandson, Cory.
A service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Leonard’s Church, New Waterford with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the KOC Hall.
