PAB CHETTY
1936 – 2017
Pab Chinnappa Chetty passed away peacefully in Prince Albert on Thursday, October 12, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife, Merlita Balino; his son, Selven; his daughter, Natasha; and his granddaughter, Sarissa. Pab was born in South Africa 1936. He often spoke of the hardships of his childhood as the middle of nine siblings in a rural coal mining community. Determined to rise above South Africa’s repressive apartheid system, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and two teaching certificates, parlaying his education into acceptance to law school at Lincoln’s Inn at the University of London in 1962. After graduating with honours, Pab immigrated to Canada. His career would take him to Canwood, Saskatoon, Melville, Vancouver, Prince Albert, Abbotsford, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Victoria and Lloydminster until he returned to Prince Albert, where he always felt at home and where he was the happiest. Among his many accomplishments, Pab was proudest when he could help a family member, client, friend or his community. He helped as many people as he could, working right up until he was diagnosed with the brain tumour that would force his brief retirement. Pab was an avid fisherman, hunter, skier, traveller, gardener, dancer and cyclist. He enjoyed reading history books and keeping in touch with friends and family. Pab always had a bright smile, dry sense of humour and a good story to share with anyone he spoke to. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Calvary United Church, Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Catholic Family Services of Prince Albert, #300 - 1008 1st Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4Y4, Prince Albert SHARE, 1750 6th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 7T4, or the Prince Albert Multicultural Association, 1410 Central Avenue, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4W5. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
