GEORGE HUCZEK
1952 – 2017
George Frank Huczek passed away from cancer on the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2017 with his family surrounding him. He began his journey into a new chapter of his life in peace. George was born on January 12, 1952 in Toronto, Ontario into a Polish family, and was very proud of his cultural roots. He was the oldest of three boys. He received all of his education in Toronto. After high school, George attended the University of Toronto to become a teacher. He received his Bachelor of Arts & Science and Bachelors of Education first, followed by a Masters in Curriculum. He was always grateful to his parents for having been able to live at home while attending university. George taught for three years before he moved to Saskatchewan in 1980. George and Michelle met in Hudson Bay, SK at the high school that fall and in the summer of 1981 they married and began teaching in the Prince Albert Catholic School system. Most of George’s teaching years were spent at St. Mary High School, with two years spent at St. John Community School after he returned from writing science curriculum in Regina for the Ministry of Education. George had many varied interests and hobbies. He loved to play and teach chess and recently had his first chess book published. He was working on his second book when he passed. He was an avid fan of the outdoors and loved to go on drives and hikes looking for interesting landscapes to photograph. Over the years he received many awards for this talent. He enjoyed camping and fishing and was a ‘guru’ with a computer. This knowledge lent itself to another love over the years, that being the writing of curriculum for other countries. Also, George had recently been accepted to train teachers in India and was looking forward to travelling there once his battle with cancer was in hand. Over the course of the last 20 years, George had become a CTF Project Overseas volunteer seven times, leading teams to developing countries in Africa and the Caribbean to train teachers. George’s greatest love, however, was his family. Left to mourn him is his wife of 36 years, Michelle; his two sons, Brandon and Brayden (Stephanie Sedgewick); his mother, Julia; and his two brothers, Henry and Peter (Danusia). George’s father passed away in 2010 but is no doubt together with George once again. Knowing George, they have a virtual bottle of scotch open already. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, Father Matthew Nguyen officiating. In lieu of other tributes in George’s memory, donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0Z9. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
