The death occurred peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, of Melvin Francis McQuaid of Tracadie Cross, in his 94th year. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita (nee Bradley), and much loved father of Marian (Ben Hogan), Francis (Cindy), Austin, Alan (Gaylene), Blair (Janet), Paul (Madeleine), Brian, Donna (Bobby Chandler), and David (Carol). Proud grampy of 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law of Fr. Austin Bradley and Lawrence and Anne Bradley. Last surviving family member of John and Lucy (Trainor) McQuaid. Predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Gerry (Affleck) McQuaid, and by Ruth and Jimmy Hughes, Joe and Doris McQuaid, Mary and Arthur Wylie, Lucy and Wilfred Hynes, Ethel and Eddie Power, Bernard and Ethel McQuaid, Elizabeth and Ted Tierney, Tommy and Kaye Bradley, Peter Bradley, Mary and Andrew Gallant, and Sister Margaret Marie Bradley, RSB. Resting at the Charlottetown Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Monday morning, then transferred to St. Bonaventure Church, Tracadie Cross, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in the family plot in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m, and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Due to allergies, please refrain from wearing scents.
