Gwen TATE

TATE, M. Gwen
Pictou

TATE, Mary Gwendolyn -71, of Denoon St., Pictou, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Mary (Landry) Tate. Gwen worked for The Royal Bank for many years in Pictou and Stellarton, and also with Skoke & Company Law Office up until her death. She volunteered for many years at The deCoste Entertainment Center in Pictou, on the Board as well as helping out ushering and fundraising. One of her greatest joys was her time spent volunteering at The Northumberland Veterans Unit where she listened to and spent time with the “Vets” helping out with their special events. She made wonderful friends there of whom she was so grateful. She was a lifelong member of Stella Maris Catholic Church and was involved in the reading ministry. Gwen is survived by her brother, Sandy (Bernice); and sisters, Ronalda (Kendall) Woodacre and Susan (Lindsay) Moland; and was predeceased by brother, John, who died in infancy. To each of us she was our rock, the big sister who was always there for us and whom we will miss so much. She is also survived by two nieces, Beth (Bill MacKenzie) and Chelssie; and five nephews, Peter, Arthur (Amy), Adam (Jenn), Aumrey (Skip), Ian and her very special Angelina Skoke as well as grand niece, Jessica MacKenzie and grand nephews, Mark MacKenzie, Austin Tate, Keegan Tate and Gus Woodacre. She took great pride and interest in all their achievements and successes and revelled in each new addition to the family. She never forgot a birthday or special event and became that special Aunt Gwennie. Special thanks to the staff of 4th Floor Surgery and Palliative Care Aberdeen Hospital, the Palliative Care Team for their support, and Dr. Cole and Dr. Burrill for striving to help us understand what was happening to our Gwennie. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Monday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in Gwen’s memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
