Sheila Mae Ruth Penney

Passed on: October 17th, 2017

It is with sadness that the family of Sheila Mae Ruth Penney announces her sudden passing on October 17, 2017 at her home in Kentville with family by her side. A proud Cape Bretoner, she was born in North Sydney on November 21, 1940 to the late Daniel and Agneta (Jesty) Gillis.
Sheila's greatest love in life was her family. She led a full and busy life which was dedicated to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and most recently, great-grandmother or "GG" as her great-grandson called her. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends, wonderful story telling, love of live theatre and movies. She had a keen sense of humor and a generous heart. Sheila always put others above herself and was ready to help anyone and everyone. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was so proud of them. She enjoyed attending their many sporting events, dance recitals and graduations.
Sheila will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 58 years, Douglas; her children, Sharon (Pat) Ricketts, Kentville, Deanna (Blaine Chisholm) Penney, Coldbrook and Jennifer (Sam) Millett, Wellington; her grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Leggett, Windsor, Alyssa and Rylan Millett, Wellington, and great grandson, Eli Leggett, Windsor. Sheila was also a special Mom to Duane Muise, Joe Gillis and Don Schofield.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her infant son, David Christopher, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering and reception will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There will be no funeral service as per Sheila's wishes and a private family graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in North Sydney at a later date.
