Madeline "Maddie" Johnson

JOHNSON, Madeline Frances “Maddie” – age 92 of Nictaux, NS passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nictaux, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ella (Gaul) Taylor. Maddie was a member of the Nictaux Baptist Church, past member of the church choir and a founding member of the Nictaux Baptist Friendly Club. She was a former trustee of the Nictaux Falls School and devoted her life to raising her family. Maddie was affectionately known as “Nanny J” to her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Bill) Wentzell, Nictaux; Donna (Frank) Spinney, Harmony; Judy (Charles) Daborn, South Farmington; sons, Alan (Julie) Johnson, Brickton; Darryl (Tammy) Johnson, Nictaux; sister, Ethel (Bob) Jones, Ottawa, ON; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald Johnson; son Michael Johnson; daughter-in-law, Susan Johnson; great granddaughter Carina Johnson; sisters Vange Robar, Doris Grant; brothers Harry Taylor, Ronald “Pat” Taylor, Harold Taylor and Robie Taylor. In keeping with Maddie’s wishes, there was no visitation. Funeral service was held 2:00PM Friday, November 3, 2017 in the Nictaux Baptist Church with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment was in the Nictaux Cemetery. A reception for family and friends followed in the Nictaux Fire Hall. Family flowers only please. Donations in Maddie’s memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre, Nictaux Baptist Church or to “Carey Me” Supporting Palliative Care in The Home. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the VON, Home Care staff and Palliative Care team for all their care and compassion shown to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
