SWINAMER, Sybil Joy “Sue” — age 82, of Windsor and Three Mile Plains, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Dykeland Lodge in Windsor. Born in Windsor Forks, Hants County, Nova Scotia, on November 28, 1928, Sue was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was the youngest child of James and Myrtle (Smeltzer) Begin. Sue loved life and conquered many hurdles. A cancer survivor of 11 years, Sue never let her health related struggles ruin the day. Her mental fortitude and gracious sense of humour was a beaming light even in her final days. Sue’s children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She cherished time spent with family and friends and these memories will remain close in the hearts of those that knew her well. In her early days, Sue toiled as a munitions worker during wartime and was also employed at Nova Scotia Textiles. Returning to work after the growth of her children, Sue worked at Avon Valley and retired as a homemaker for the Town of Windsor. Sue is survived by her daughters, Paulette (Paul) Girouard, Lower Sackville, Prudy Fox, Windsor; grandchildren, Amanda (Ray) Fraser, Bay St. Lawrence, Cape Breton, Angela Girouard (Alex Pena), Halifax, Gregory (Allana) Fox, Bedford, Melissa (Alex) Greenough, Woodville; great grandchildren, Roxanne Pena and Honora Fraser; several special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, James and Myrtle (Smeltzer) Begin; Sue was predeceased by husband, Owen Burpee Swinamer (1974); her son, Patrick “Pat” Swinamer (2010); her son-in-law, Frederick A. Fox (2009); and her special friend, George Armstrong; brothers, Russell, Harold, Dick, and John Begin; sisters, Helen Lunn, Alma Bassett, and Vivian Huntley; sister-in-law, Iris Begin; brothers-in-law, Ralph Lunn and Tom Bassett. Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Debra Mosher and Rev. Tom Henderson officiated. A private family committal was held at the Maplewood Cemetery, King Street, Windsor, followed by a reception at the Lindsay Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Sue may be made to Friends of Dykeland Lodge, 124 Cottage Street, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0, or to a charity of one’s choice. The family is truly thankful for the love and support Sue received from her extended family at Dykeland Lodge. To the nursing and care staff of Burden Lane and Dr. Cathryn Smith, our family is forever grateful of the care and dignity provided to our dearest mother and grandmother.
