New Glasgow - Patrick (Pat) Rowe, 85, died Saturday, November 4th, 2017, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia with his wife at his side.
Pat was born October 11th, 1932, in County Wexford, Ireland to Joseph and Ellen Rowe. In 1956, Pat immigrated to Canada where he began work mining in Northern Ontario and, eventually, on the Subways of Toronto.
Pat worked for many years in the construction industry in the Greater Toronto Area. He was a member of L.I.U.N.A Local 183 for many years and retired as a construction superintendent for George Wimpey Construction in 1992. Pat was an active member of the Garryowen Gaelic Athletic Association. Pat and his wife retired to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in 1992 where he became a member of the Abercrombie Golf Club for many years. They travelled often to Ireland, the UK, sunny destinations in the Caribbean and spent many winters as snowbirds in Dunedin, Florida.
Pat loved to laugh and made many of those around him laugh by his stories from recent times and long ago. He loved his family deeply and wanted them to be passionate about their lives. Pat was an enthusiastic Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and Argonauts fan and would yell at the TV, hoping they could hear him!
Pat is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Rowe (MacDonald) married for close to 53 years since their wedding in Toronto, in 1964. Pat is also survived by his sons, Nicholas Patrick (Dana) and Michael Francis (Laura) and his five grandchildren, Emily, Conor, Rachel, Sean, and Aine of Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario and his sister, Bridget Hunt of Santa Monica, California. Pat is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, along with grand nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen, Mary, Eileen, Stasia, Mary Anne, Teresa and his brother Nicholas at a young age.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday, November 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, November 7th at 11 am, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in New Glasgow.
