Doris Dixon
January 25, 1926 – November 10, 2017

Doris passed away peacefully at the Herb Bassett Home. She was predeceased by her husband, John Dixon; her parents, Otto and Aagot Jacobsen and her brother, Leif Jacobsen. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Ronning of Prince Albert; sister, Kristine Beatty of Victoria and her brother, Odin Jacobsen of Prince Albert; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Barb Dixon of Chilliwack; as well as several nieces and nephews. Doris was born at Loreburn, SK. She moved north with her family in 1933 in response to the drought, eventually settling on the farm west of Prince Albert. Much of her working life was with Sask. Power as a secretary for Vince Elmer until her marriage to John Dixon in 1973. Shortly after marriage, they bought a quarter section of land, where they lived for 41 years. Doris will always be remembered as a gentle natured lady, who appreciated the simpler things in life including country living, her many pets and the great outdoors. Doris enjoyed painting and took pride in having done portraits of many of her dogs and cats. Those paintings served to decorate her room at Herb Basset and were the topic of many conversations. In her later years, her gentle nature served her well in adjusting to life in long-term care. She frequently had a smile on her face. She appreciated visits, was never demanding and seemed to like and trust those who cared for her. She enjoyed wheelchair trips to the cafeteria, where a jolt of caffeine served to add a bit of clarity and change of scenery to her day. She enjoyed her coffee and a Twinkie, particularly if there was a bit of ice cream mixed with the coffee. Many thanks are extended to the staff of the Golden Hill unit of the Herb Bassett Home, who provided care for nearly three years. The kind feelings and interactions by many caregivers were noted and are much appreciated. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the chapel at the Herb Bassett Home/Victoria Hospital, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Iris Kristiansdottir officiating. Interment at South Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
