SPACKMAN, ROBERT “Bob” – 83, Bedford, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Halifax Infirmary Site. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Charles & Rose (Fitch) Spackman. Raised in Montreal, in his youth, Bob grew up in the Park Extension area and was a faithful member of the Salvation Army Park Extension Corps where he was the Scout and Sunday School leader for many years, shaping countless lives. He was instrumental in the development of the West Island Salvation Army Corps, where he spent many years as the acting Corps Sgt. Major. Beginning his career with the Chartered Trust & Executors, Bob moved through the ranks to become the Head of the Stock Transfer Dept. Finally, retiring from Canada Trust in 1986 after 43 years of service, he then moved to Saint John where he pursued other endeavours as an entrepreneur. There, he later went on to become the beloved Senior Citizen Co-ordinator at the Saint John City Market, where he was famous for his dancing and home cooking. In 2002 he then moved to Halifax, becoming a member of the Full Gospel Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in senior citizen events. Throughout his life, Bob loved to sing, performing numerous solos, as well as leading and participating in many church theatrical productions. He will also be fondly remembered for his singing telegrams wishing "Happy Birthday" to family and friends. As an avid athlete in his youth, his passion for sports continued as he loved being a #1 Canadiens hockey fan. His interests in sports were varied and he thoroughly enjoyed watching them in person or on TV, staying abreast of the scores by reading his cherished daily newspaper. His kindness, patience and generous spirit will remain in our hearts. His greatest accomplishments were that of being a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of laughter and humor, a happy and energetic nature and an interest in life and knowledge of all things. He was loved by many and touched all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gail (Carter); children, Rose (Jim) Thibodeau, Beverley (Diego), Brian, Muriel (Chris) Pilarcik, Sandra, Heather (Jordie); grandchildren, Suzanne, Stewart, Patrick, Jonathan, Megan, Ciara, Brianna, Christopher, Emily, Greg, Jennifer, David; siblings, Mabel, Charles “Chuck”, Ethel, Elsie; several nieces and nephews.
