STARRATT, Eleanor Leslie – 88, Truro, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, November 25, 2017, at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Bay View, Pictou County, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Hilda (Rawding) Simpson. Eleanor was a member of St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill, where she contributed to the life of the church in various ways. She worked at Stanfield’s, Ryan’s IGA and Colchester County Courthouse as a clerk in the Tax Department from where she retired in 1990. She loved fiddle music and dancing and enjoyed baking and gardening and had a soft spot in her heart for cats. Eleanor is survived by her children, Earle Simpson (Colleen), Pictou; Twylla Fancy, Bible Hill; Lynn DeVouge (John MacKay), Bible Hill; Harold “Hal” Starratt, Salmon River; grandchildren, Trevor Fancy (Susan), Jeff Fancy (Niccole), Colby Starratt (Kelsey), Jessie Starratt; great granddaughter, Kayla Fancy; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Linton Gene Starratt; brothers, Donnie (Betty) Simpson, Lloyd (Sue) Simpson; parents-in-law, Frank and Jean Starratt; son-in-law, Bruce Fancy. Special thanks are extended to the staff at East Cumberland Lodge who went above and beyond in making our Mother comfortable and happy and, in our opinion, giving her an extended quality of life. As well, we would like to express our thanks to Dr. Michael Murray for his special care over the years and to Kerry Irving and Juanita Corbett for their uplifting visits and to her best friends, Barb Gorman and Jeannie Moore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Eleanor’s memory to Colchester SPCA are welcomed.
