Theresa Elizabeth (Bates) Grant

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Elizabeth (Bates) Grant, 66. Theresa passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Annie Mae (Arsenault) and Martin Isadore Bates.
Theresa enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family and friends. She was a volunteer with Town House Nursery School for 10 years. Later, she was employed as a Lunch, Bus and Grounds supervisor with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board.
Theresa is survived by her son, Christopher; her step-son, John Grant; sisters, Patsy Morrison (Hughie MacKinnon), Marie (Stuart) Murphy, Martha Green and Leone (Sheldon) Brown; brothers, Bill Bates (Shirley Snow) and Ed Bates; sister-in-law, Mira Bates; numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends, Darlene Snow, Peggy Baillie, and Kevin and Mary Beth MacDonald.
Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Harold Grant; her brother, Fabian ‘Duke’ Bates, and special friend, Albert Gould.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 from 7-9 p.m., in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The Funeral Mass celebrating Theresa's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 in St Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating.
Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to meet with the family during a reception in the church foyer.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
