Daniel Blackmore

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Daniel Blackmore II. Surrounded by his beloved wife and children and other family members, Daniel passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on December 10, 2017. The eldest of seven children, Danny was born and raised in Windsor, NL. Growing up, he was the hockey-playing, guitar-strumming, Beatles-loving, and studious school boy who served as an altar boy with St. Joseph's Catholic parish. For twelve years, Dan proudly made a contribution to his community as a town councillor with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, serving on committees at all levels of municipal governance. He was an intellectual with a curiosity for lifelong learning and a love of reading. He was well-suited for his chosen profession as an educator, where he was highly respected and revered by colleagues and students alike over his 30-year teaching career. Dan had a natural ability to lift others up through his charm, humour, sharp wit, camaraderie, and clever storytelling. Being a conversationalist, he enjoyed discussing and analyzing both historical and current events, and had a true sensibility to those in his company. Dan will perhaps be best remembered for his regimen of daily crossword puzzles, weekday walks, and as one who listened well and encouraged others to see the good in themselves. Dan put everything he had into the life that he built for himself and the relationships he shared with those around him; there truly is no greater gift than the love he gave so freely and sincerely to his family and friends. Predeceased by his father (Daniel I), mother (Lulu) and brother Robert, Dan leaves to mourn his loving wife and soulmate of 40 years, Judi; cherished children Stephanie (Trevor Poole), Daniel III, and Sydney (Geoff Oliver); sister, Molly (Neal) Stapleton; brothers, Peter (Paulette), Paul (Lisa), Tony (Lynn), David, and Darren; father-in-law, Sidney Butler; in-laws, Joan and Walter Hodder, Roma and Freeman White, Glen and Christine Butler, Scott and Tena Butler, Beverly and Peter Rockwood; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. A celebration of Dan's life was observed at a funeral service held at St. Joseph's Parish, Grand Falls-Windsor, at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017. The service was entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor. Donations in Dan’s memory can be made to the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall or the Community Soup Kitchen. Dan will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to have known and loved him.

Laughter!
Laugh! That's the only thing
That can come close to matching
The tumultuous cascade of water
Flowing in the freest of spirit.
