Eldred Churchill
Eldred Churchill (Butch) passed away peacefully at his home in Portugal Cove on Saturday December 16, 2017. He is predeceased by his parents John and Mary Jane (nee Dawe) and was the only remaining of 10 brothers and sisters. Butch will be forever lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years Joyce (nee Hibbs) - they were devoted life and business partners. Together they raised 3 beautiful, devoted and loving children-precious son Stephen, Jennifer (Ken) Taylor, who were a constant pillar of support in Butch’s final journey and Julie (Darren) Stapleton and his grandchildren Alexis and Jesse Stapleton currently residing in Doha, Qatar who were very dear to his heart. They are making a long and difficult journey home to be together as a family and say a final goodbye. Butch will never be forgotten by his “buddy” and great nephew Mitchell Rogers and his faithful canine companion Barbie who was always at his side. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Carol McDonald and his niece Colleen Rogers both of whom were always there to lend a hand, offer a word of encouragement and share a laugh. He also leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews and especially David Hibbs and his only sister in law Hazel Churchill. Butch lived a full and interesting life, always embracing opportunities with new work and personal experiences whether in his home community or in his early world travels. He was a kind and generous man who was well respected by all who knew him. He was a well loved and respected fixture at the Whales Back Convenience and Community Health Clinic and often spoke with great respect and caring about his “special girls” there. Wonderful neighbours Colin and Meagan Tucker and baby Sadie and Reuben and Debbie Hennebury and Maddie. The family owes a heartfelt thank you to Butch’s medical care providers, Drs. M Anwar, H. Mirolo, C. French and Sean Connors and the amazing professionals who cared for him at home, Dr. Russell Dawe and the palliative care team, his Community Health Care nurses Mary Hicks and Katie Day as well as his home care workers Maureen Horlick, Lori Horlick and Cindy Murray. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home on 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday December 19th and Wednesday December 20th from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be at the Memorial United Church on Thursday December 21st at 2pm with Internment at the United Church Cemetery on Bauline Line.
