Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: West Bay Road, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: May 3rd, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, brother and grandfather on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, N.S.
Vince was born Feb. 21, 1935 in New Waterford; he was a son of the late Patrick and Greta (Pendergast) Petrie of Lingan. He was an avid trapper and a big Montreal Canadiens fan.
Vince was working for Canada Post as a rural route driver in West Bay Road and surrounding communities at the time of his diagnosis of brain cancer. He greatly enjoyed this job during this time in his life, especially giving a little extra attention to the seniors of his community.
He obtained his millwright trade while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Most of his career was at the Heavy Water Plant, Point Tupper. He was very active with the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union, where he served as the president from 1970-1985, and served as an executive board member for the Atlantic region with the Energy and Chemical Workers union.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Lorrie), Grand Anse, Brian, Troy; daughters, Angela Grimard (Marc), Prud’ Homme, Saskatchewan and Patricia Tait (Bill), Ellershouse; grandchildren, Kaleb, Brett, Breigh, Mathieu, Joel and Mikalya; step-grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Monica MacNeil; sisters, Pauline Rodgers (Tommy), Greenwood, Patricia, Calgary.
Vince was predeceased by an infant brother, Toby.
A special thank you to all who cared for dad at Strait Richmond Hospital, especially Dr. Collins, Dr. Pluta and the sitters. Also to Colleen Morgan for your time and kindness you took visiting with our dad.
Memorial donations may be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. Burial will be at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com.
