Alice Christene (MacLeod) Wallis
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Christene Wallis in her 100th year, at the Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou, on December 20, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Alexander S. MacLeod and Margaret Annie (Campbell) MacLeod of Heathbell, NS. Christene was born on March 6, 1918 in Heathbell. Christene attended the one room school in Heathbell for her early education and then grade 11 and grade 12 at Pictou Academy, graduating in 1936. Christene went on to graduate from the Provincial Normal College, Truro in 1938. She taught at the Elmfield School until she got married to Wilfred Wallis on July 13, 1940. Christene was a member of the Pictou United Church, a life member of the Pictou United Church Women and a former Sunday School Teacher and Explorer Leader at Pictou United Church. She was also a member of the Princess Rebekah Lodge No. 4 with her 75 year jewel. Christene is survived by her children, Ronald George (Terry) Wallis, Richmond, ON; Linda Catherine (Ken) Matheson, Kanata, ON; Bruce Alexander Wallis, Pictou, NS; Ian William (Diana) Wallis, Pictou, NS; grandchildren, Kevin Wallis, Wayne Wallis, Jane Turner, Anne Labonté and Susan Bylsma; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Sarah Turner, Mathew and Sarah Labonté, Heather and Curtis Bylsma. Christene was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Wilfred Wallis in 1993; sisters, Letitia Anne Archibald and Jessie Katherine Fuller; and brothers, George A. MacLeod and Hugh Donald MacLeod. The family want to thank the nurses and staff at the Shiretown Nursing Home for the wonderful care and kindness they provided for our mother. Visitation will be held at Pictou United Church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on December 27, 2017 with the funeral to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Reception will follow the service in the church hall and burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Scotsburn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity in her memory.
