John Allister 'Little Johnny' MacKinnon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Allister ‘Little Johnny’ MacKinnon on Jan. 9, 2018 at home.
Born in Black Point on Oct. 14, 1950, he was the son of the late Donald A. and Jessie Florence (Burton) MacKinnon.
Johnny was loved by many, he had lots of friends. He was a member of the Sydney Mines Pensioner’s Club. Johnny loved to hunt, and fish. He spent a lot of time at Robins in Sydney Mines chatting with his friends. He spent most of his life working as a fisherman and woodsman. He was last employed at Victoria Co-op fisheries. As we all know he was a big Montreal Canadians fan!!
Johnny is survived by his best friend, Kay Boudreau, Lorraine, and Thomas Woodfine. He was a special brother to Elizabeth MacKinnon (Sandy), Sadie MacKinnon (Hector) Lewis (Piney), Katie Groves (Leonard), Donald, Jean Forrest (Benny), Alex (Sarah), Nora (Jason), Denise MacAskill (John), Anthony (Karen).
Johnny had a special place in his heart for his grandniece, Kaylen. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Johnny was predeceased by siblings, Millie, Wayne, Joan, Nellie, Myles, Bernie, and Peter MacKinnon.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 8 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. There will be a private family burial.
